Diversity

In the field of Diversity we aim to:

  • Bring people into authentic and respectful communication with each other for the sake of achieving individual and organisational goals
  • Enhance cross-cultural team collaboration and performance
  • Assist organisations to make sense out of the complexity of diversity issues today
  • Address diversity issues at a variety of levels including local, global and the intersection of the two
  • Mitigate reputational and legal risk

We do this by supporting our clients to:

  • Build a business case. We work with clients to generate understanding and knowledge in their organisation with regard to the business, legal and ethical case for diversity.
  • Initiate and manage change. Diversity work in organisations needs to be managed like any other significant change. Our strengths in change management enable us to work alongside clients to make these changes impactful and business-relevant.
  • Generate cross-cultural understanding, sensitivity, and ability. Through workshops, skilled facilitation of complex team situations, personal and team profiling and assessment we bring awareness, understanding, attitudinal and behavioural change to how people work across cultures. This is a key component of the successful management of a diverse workforce.
  • Overcome internal resistance. We draw on our strengths in strategy implementation and leadership development to bring diversity into the mainstream of how an organisation is led and managed.

Our work tackles head-on the following weaknesses which many diversity programmes encounter:

  • A backdrop of blame and lack of true inclusiveness of everyone in the organisation.  Whether it is a merger and acquisition or a diversity initiative, we open up honest conversations about where the organisation wants to go, who is being included and who is not, talk explicitly about political correctness or ‘polite’ cultural norms that block realisation of the benefits of diversity and cultural differences.
  • Little understanding of how diversity affects the bottom line. There is often an unclear business case for diversity. We believe that diversity needs to be considered holistically in the organisation (rather than seeing it as only a human resources or recruitment issue).
  • Poor design of effective strategies to generate business opportunity. Our approach is to help clients generate relevant strategies to realise business value through diversity.
  • Under-investment in financing or staffing change efforts. We partner with you to assess the resource requirements and influence those who will unlock them.
  • Operational leaders who lack change agency skills and techniques. We partner with, and often coach, the diversity change leaders to be more effective internal change agents and get things done while bringing the organisation along with them.
