A menu of future Considerations diversity services:
Organisational diversity audits, assessments & consultation
We can conduct your diversity audit & assessment work for and
with you. Whether you simply need a top-line assessment of diversity
in your organisation, an in-depth culture review or you an audit of
your diversity activities with respect to related legislative requirements
(e.g. the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000, Employment Equality
regulations, etc.) or a thorough developmental assessment of employee
cultural sensitivity - we can deliver these. We can deliver detailed
organisational and community involvement/consultation exercises drawing
on interviews, focus groups, facilitated group meetings, or first-class
stakeholder engagement events. We use leading-edge techniques which
encourage real participation, involvement, and effective ways of hearing
everyone’s voice and contribution. The outcome is not only rich
data, but a feeling of high participation, and the embedding of skills
among your people to carry out such initiatives in the future.
Diversity education and training
The perceptions, attitudes and behaviours of your people regarding
cultural sensitivity are the foundation of any diversity strategy.
Diversity training and managers provide your people with a way of
making sense of cultural differences, helping them work through the
kinds of diversity situations they are facing or will face, and giving
them a non-threatening, non-politically correct space to explore the
issues and challenges for themselves allows people to begin to take
responsibility for the issues themselves. Many diversity programmes set out to ‘fix’ something
that is broken. In some situations this will be necessary. However,
the majority of organisations we deal with are comprised of competent,
well-intentioned people who have varying degrees of cultural sensitivity
and skills. Our approach is to encourage people to see themselves,
and others beneath the surface through improved self-knowledge and
dialogue skills, rather than learning "politically correct" behaviours.
As in all of our training, our sessions will be highly interactive,
use real-life examples, and be directly applicable in the workplace.
We use a variety of methods and tools in our work including profiles,
diversity psychometrics and awareness tools such as the Developmental
Model of Intercultural Sensitivity, the Intercultural Development
Inventory, and the Intercultural Awareness Profiler (Trompenaus Hampden-Turner). We
also partner with organisations who provide global databases of cultural
differences and global team profiles around which we build our education. We
can develop general cultural and diversity programmes and also can
deliver specific programmes in any of the following areas: race/ethnicity,
gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion/belief, part-time/flexible
working, work-life balance, national culture differences, sexual harassment,
thinking styles, and organisational differences.
One-to-one coaching on diversity and intercultural issues
We work with individuals starting wherever they are with regards
to diversity and intercultural issues. We address their needs
and goals, how they can increase their effectiveness, manage their
teams, change inappropriate behaviour, and/or deal with difficult
situations and employees. Our coaches are experienced in coaching
mid to Board level executives a variety of fields – working
with people who are already successful to be even more effective.
We also coach diversity managers and directors leading diversity initiatives.
Through regular telephone or face-to-face sessions (and ongoing availability
of our coaches), we support you, in the leadership, management and
technical skills required to get the benefits of diversity.
There are many coaches available in the market. What makes our
offering unique is the variety of areas we understand - organisational
change, leadership, personal effectiveness and diversity issues- and
the variety of levels on which we work – individual, interpersonal,
the self, values, behaviours, emotions, body and intellect. Because
it only takes 1-2 hours per week, this is a relatively inexpensive
intervention, which can substantially improve your diversity impact.
Multicultural teambuilding and team working
Teams from different cultures and backgrounds can face challenges
in communication and work styles. Research tells us that diverse teams
tend to produce better results, but with the critical caveat that
the diversity must be attended to and managed. Interventions
to build awareness and understanding in the team can have a huge effect
on team productivity, output, and each individuals work satisfaction.
By learning about the different talents brought to the team by peoples
unique experiences, attitudes and talents, new ways of working together,
communicating, and developing results and leadership can be created.
We draw on team profiles, values and cultural profiles, understanding
high-performing global teams, mixed with exercises, training, or processes
which meet the unique needs of your teams in learning to work and
communicate together in new and effective ways.
Diversity and Sustainability
Diversity and sustainability are both topics on most leaders' agendas – and
both topics that leaders often feel they need to know more about than
they currently do. We believe that knowledge and skill in both areas
are critical to being a 21st century leader. We work with clients
to understand the connections between these core management issues
and how they work together. For example, we provide creative and innovative
training programmes that develop leadership, by actually living and
working in multicultural teams, engaging diverse communities and working
on social and environmental projects in conjunction with public sector
organisations, to deliver powerful and personal leadership experiences.
We don't believe that leadership can be learned solely in the classroom,
just as managing cultural diversity can't be learned without interacting
with people who are different from us. Likewise, sustainability most
often remains vague and abstract until we see first hand the impact
of social and environmental issues.
Change management and project management support
Often the success or failure of a diversity project rests, not
so much with the organisation's commitment to diversity, but with
its ability to deliver a diversity project's ambitious results with
limited time and resources. We will work with your team, facilitating
their project planning, helping them form project boards and stakeholder
groups to keep their project on track and key people informed. We
regularly coach project managers ensuring that they maintain solid
project practices and high energy throughout the life of the project,
to meet their goals at the end. With regards to diversity, we also
assist in identifying any project ‘blind spots’ where
the project itself is not a role model for how the organisation wants
and intends to managed diversity – e.g., lack of certain stakeholder
inclusion, treating regional offices needs as similar to head office,
etc. You might need your top team or diversity project teams to build
their skills in managing such a large-scale change and a complex project.
Our two-day courses in Project Management and Leading People through
Change have helped many leaders through these important processes.
By running them in-house for your people, we can tailor them to your
specific needs and ensure that what they learn is directly applicable
to the challenge ahead of them.
Cultural due diligence and integration for mergers & acquisitions
Every merger and acquisition - or partnership, or collaboration
for that matter– will face the challenge of managing with often
invisible organisational and cultural differences. They surface
through diversity of attitudes and approaches in individuals, teams,
and stakeholders. Much research has been conducted to indicate that
not addressing cultural differences consciously leaves venture at
high risk of at least inefficiency if not failure. We work with
organisations in a variety of ways to surface differences, explore
them and develop new ‘third culture’ ways of working together. We
deliver cultural audits, M&A organisational and national cultural
training and team building, first 100-day team processes and practices,
action and fast-cycle learning, and individual and team coaching.
By learning about different people’s unique experiences, attitudes
and talents, we create new ways of achieving results together, preventing
differences from being destructive forces.
