Delivering energy savings for Tesco

Where it began

Tesco CEO Terry Leahy was making a shift in strategic direction for Tesco, to include a real focus on environmental impact. Tasked with implementing the energy saving requirements was a team of energy specialists. They came to us to implement their behavioural change programme, which aimed at saving 3% of energy costs – some £6m.

Where we came in

We developed and managed events for their network of energy champions, to inspire, motivate and equip them to make a significant difference in their stores. We then delivered five regional events around the UK to 700 energy champions.

Through this work we enabled a six-person team within Tesco to have national reach and impact across all the major UK stores, to the acclaim of those within the company.

How it ended… and what next

The events were highly successful: 98% of attendees said that they would go and do something in their stores as a result of the events. 96% said they really enjoyed them.

The events identified £17.35m of savings through behavioural change alone – that is with no capital investment. That is 92,466 tonnes of CO2, saving Tesco 100 times more than the events cost.

“Future Considerations delivered a week of events for 700 employees nationwide.  Their work fed directly into our CEO’s strategy on climate change. The logistical planning and event management was exceptional.  The event content was also exactly what was required.  The team liaised at all stages and have made a real difference to our business.  I could not recommend this company higher”
