Alan Wilson
Alan’s work spans three key areas of: psychological assessment in organisations; consultancy and training in performance management; and executive coaching. In practice, psychological assessment relates to assessment & development centres, structured interviewing, 360 degree appraisal, psychometrics and competency design and Alan works with these techniques to assist organisations to manage and develop their talent.
Performance management involves assessment too, but so much more. Central to effective performance management (and leadership) is effective communication; having the confidence and competence to have difficult conversations and recognising and rewarding good performance. Many well educated, clever people avoid these conversations, becoming metaphorical hostages to their fears about confronting others, and do not utilise and build these skills. Alan is committed to helping people unleash their ability to have these difficult conversations to really enhance their and their teams' performance.
As an executive coach, Alan has worked with senior managers and directors from a variety of firms to help build their competence and confidence at work.
One of Alan's key values is learning and to that end he has a Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management and an MSc in Psychological Assessment in Organisations. He is currently completing a further MSc in Change Agent Skills & Strategies and has just embarked on advanced training in the use of Transactional Analysis (TA) in organisations. He has undertaken various other programmes including training in NLP and BPS Level A & B training. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (MCIPD).
Before working with Future Considerations, Alan worked as Head of Learning & Development for Securicor Cash Services. Before that he worked as a Consultant with SHL, a major firm of Business Psychologists.
Away from work Alan enjoys sport and music. After 25 years of playing regular football, a bad tackle forced premature retirement. He has moved onto sailing now and recently collected his Day Skippers ticket. As a budding tenor saxophonist, Alan has been heard at a number of glamorous village halls as part of a soul/blues/rock covers combo. He is currently between bands and so only his family and next door neighbours are complaining!
